Rolls-Royce is one of the biggest carmakers on the planet. Its vehicles are known for their level of luxury and attention to detail. Although the brand has been around for a very long time and changed greatly since it first emerged, there is something many don’t know about the luxury carmaker. Rolls-Royce was actually founded in Manchester. That’s right, although the brand’s headquarters were eventually built in Derby, it was Manchester that gave birth to the world-renowned manufacturer.
It all started in 1904 when Henry Royce built his very first vehicle in his Manchester factory. Prior to pursuing carmaking, Royce had an electrical and mechanical business. In late-1904, Rolls met Charles Royce for the very first time at Manchester’s very own Midland Hotel. Rolls was running a car dealership in Fulham at the time, however the two hit it off and that’s how Rolls-Royce was born.
Although Rolls and Royce were initially planning to open a new, bigger factory in Manchester, an offer from Derby’s council convinced the two to move the brand’s headquarters away from Manchester.
Rolls-Royce officially became a brand in 1906, and although it has gone through a great number of changes over the years, it still continues to produce vehicles today.
In 2014, the brand celebrated its 110th birthday. The Midland Hotel, were the two founders were introduced, held a special event to celebrate the occasion.
The 2014 Rolls-Royce Phantom was joined by over 30 vehicles from the brand’s past outside the hotel, where enthusiasts and fans of the brand could experience the vehicles in all their glory.
Rolls-Royce remains one of the most luxurious brands on the market and the fact that it all started in Manchester makes it slightly more special.
We’re huge fans of the brand here at Manchester Automotive, however due to the insane price tag, we can only dream about ever owning a Rolls-Royce. If you are considering selling your current car to purchase a Rolls-Royce, you’re probably wondering to yourself “where can I sell my car fast?” There are many options such as doing it privately or using an online car buying service where you can sell your car online at Trusted Car Buyers. Remember however that a Rolls-Royce will cost you a lot.
